HCA-Radio is a local online community radio station project. The station which is ran by our volunteers at our base in Hedworth, South Tyneside is designed for the local community.
We aim to provide local people with local information as well as up to date news of what is going on in the locality of South Tyneside.
The station was created after enthusiasts from the local community signed a partition to launch a community based radio station in the local area of Hedworth, South Tyneside, United Kingdom. Station Chairman, Alan Gibson, was inspired to create the local community radio station after listening to online radio stations, Radio Teesdale & Hive Radio.
HCA-Radio made its first broadcast on October 1st, 2013. The broadcast was a test and was an opportunity for the team to find their feet and trial the equipment.
As the station is community based, it is open to virtually anyone who may be interested in getting involved within the radio. If its something you've never done before and your wanting to give it ago or if its something your already into, then come and see us. From presenting to programming or managing online content, there's a place here for you! Visit our get involved page for more information of how to get involved with the station.
We are also looking at working with local schools to become involved in this project. The response to this has been very positive and we are planning to put a program of events together early in 2014 and hope to have pupils from the schools and maybe some parents and teachers involved.
We would like to thank the staff of Hedworthfield Community Association who helped with a fundraising race night which helped create funds for us. We would also like to thank Kev Mullen & 'spongebob' who ran the event free of charge to help get this project started. We would also like to thank Gav who has very kindly taken his time to print our station logos. Finally, we would also like to thank our local Northumbria Police force who helped fund the cost of starting up.
